Li, Zhengbin is a professor in Department of electronic, School of EECS. He has served as the Vice Director of Institute of Advanced Communications since 2013. He obtained his Bachelor of Engineering from Central South University in 1991, and PhD from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 2000. His research interests include fiber sensing and detecting, especially on fiber optic gyroscope, fiber based gravity detection and fiber based rotational seismology.

Dr. Li has published more than 100 research papers, and most of them published in journals, such as Optics Letters, Optical Express, PRL, JLT of IEEE etc.

Dr. Li has more than ten research projects including NSFC, 973 programs, 863 project, etc. His research achievements are summarized as follows:

1) Dual polarization fiber optic gyroscope: The interferometric fiber optic gyroscope (IFOG) is the mostly popular and the most mature type sensor for measuring angular velocity, which are widely used for industrial and militarily applications. Higher sensitivity and lower cost are two developing goals for IFOGs. The minimal model is popular for designing IFOGs to ensure reciprocity of Sagnac effect based fiber interferometer by single polarization mode to prevent polarization fluctuation using polarizer filter. As fiber supports the propagation of two orthogonal polarization modes, we discovered a novel phenomenon the polarization fluctuation compensation of orthogonal polarized light wave propagating in fiber optic Sagnac interferometer, and proposed and demonstrated a new kind polarization reciprocity of fiber optic Sagnac interferometer, which is another type of IFOG.

2) Gravity measurement using zero area fiber optic Sagnac interferometer: It is a novel method to measure the gravity. Designing a fiber-rod mass-dipole rotor to construct the absolute zero area ultra-long fiber Sagnac interferometer, the gravity and gravity gradient translate simultaneously into non-reciprocity light wave phase of Sagnac interferometer. A high precision fiber optic gyroscope and an atomic clock on chip will adopted to measure physical parameters of the measurement system on line, so that the parameters variance with environments will not affect the resolution. The potential application of this gravimeter is to study new methods of earthquake early warning, geophysical prospecting and exploration, geodynamics researches, space and planetary exploration, etc.
