Chen, Xuzong is a professor in the Department of Electronics, School of EECS, and has served as the Director of Institute of Quantum Electronics since 2005. He obtained his B.Sc. from Jiangsu University in 1983, and Ph.D. from Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics in 1993 respectively. His research interests include quantum simulation, quantum topological phenomena, quantum magnetism based on optical lattice, and microwave atomic clock based on lasers.

Dr. CHEN has published more than 100 research papers, and most of them are published in international journals such as Physical Review Letters, Physical Review A, Optical Letters, Applied Physical Letters. He has served in the Program Committee of ICAP 2016, Member, Committee of Quantum Optics, Chinese Physical Society (2000.7-), Vice Director, Time and Frequency Committee, Chinese Society of Measurement, (2004.5-), Fellow, Physics of Institute, UK (2006.1-), Member, Committee of Atom and molecule, Chinese Physical Society (2012.7-), Board member, Quantum Optics, Chinese Journal (2000.7- ), Board member, Measurement Science and Technology, IOP, UK, (2005.3-), Board member, Board member, Quantum Electronics, Chinese Journal, (2006.1-), Board member, Chinese Optics Letters (2007.1- ) .

Dr. Chen has more than ten research projects including NSFC, 973 programs, 863 project, etc. His research achievements are summarized as follows:

1.Manipulation of Quantum Gas by Lasers or Magnetic Fields: One major research topic in utracold atomic physics field is to manipulation of quantum gas by lasers and other approaches. He proposed and demonstrated many new approaches on quantum manipulation of quantum gas, such as to measure critical factor of Bose-Einstein Condensate transition at critical temperature, measure the correlation relation between lattices for 1D optical lattice by superradiant scattering, control high order momentum by optical programmed pulses, generate pulsed atom laser by Majorana transition etc. He has published over 30 papers on PRL and PRA in this stream.

2.Ultracold Atom Physics Experiments in Space, China will launch a space station in 2022, an experimental platform for ultacold atom experiments will be built in Chinese space station. As the scientific PI, Dr. Chen will lead to design this platform to achieve Pico kelvin ultra-low temperature and carry six challenging experiments based on the ultracold atom platform:1) Quantum Topological Superfluid, 2) Quantum Magnetism, 3)Bose-Fermi mixture, 4)quantum Phase transition, 5) Polar molecules, 6)Acoustic black hole.

3.Frequency Standard and Optical Comb Generators: The application of the technology of ultracold atom physics is vacuum technique and frequency stabilization techniques; we developed our techniques of frequency stabilized semiconductor lasers both applied in microwave atomic clock and optical comb generators. For the optical pumped cesium clock, the long term stability is achieved better over than 1E-14, for the portable optical comb generator, the long term stability is obtained better over than 1E-14. He has published over 10 papers on OL, OE and APL in this stream.
