Liu, Junhua is an associate professor in the Department of Microelectronics, School of EECS, Peking University. He obtained his B.Sc. from Xi’an University of Technology in 2000, M.S. from Xi'an Institute of Microelectronics Technology, in 2003, and Ph.D. from Peking University, in 2007. His research interests include low power radio frequency (RF) integrated circuits (ICs), low power circuits for medical applications, and phase-locked loops (PLLs). 

Dr. Liu has published 36 research papers in journals and conferences, such as IEEE TCAS-I/II, IET EL, etc., and holds 24 issued patents. He has served as reviewer for IEEE TCAS-I, IEEE ISCAS, IEEE TVLSI, SCIENCE CHINA Information Sciences, etc.

Dr. Liu has 5 projects on RF ICs or low-power ICs and taken part in other 9 ones as an important contributor. His research achievements are summarized as follows:

1) RF IC design: RF ICs serve as the most important part of wireless communication systems. He has designed transceivers/receivers for RF identification (ID), digital TV, GPS/Beidou, and implanted medical devices. Some new circuit structure and method were proposed for full integration, high sensitivity or low power consumption for these systems, and the RFID reader achieves a sensitivity of -90dBm, the medical transceiver consumes only 2mA for 2Mbps data rate.    

2) PLL design: Modern wireless communications require low cost PLLs with high performance and low power, digital PLL occupy small chip area but with inferior phase noise. He proposed some new methods for digital PLLs to simplify the loop structure and enhance loop linearity for better in-band phase noise, to improve precision of digital controlled oscillator for better out-of-band phase noise, and new methods to cancel phase noise of ring-oscillator based PLLs. These methods can be used to improve performance of PLLs in low power node of internet of things (IOT), blue tooth, etc.
